Day 10 To Fife

The drive from Cullen to Aberdeen is pleasant and flat yet uneventful.

In contrast to Invernesses pinkish buildings Aberdeen's are dark grey.
After a couple of hours for a laundry session I venture south of Stonehaven and stop at Dunnotar Castle. Now this is one spooky place. Ravens, or at least black crows perpetually surrond this former island fortress and ruins. It's easy to understand why it was chosen to hide Scotland's crown jewels, among other things, over the centuries.
It was possible to venture into the castle itself but I was too spooked!

My intention had been to stop at Dundee. Unfortunately I found myself on the Tay Bridge to Fife before I found an exit!. So Dundee was accidentally bypassed. But it did give me more time at St.Andrews.

It was great to see in real life the course that had been watched for hours on TV over the years.
I see the clubhouse and the burn. But I'm just as fascinated by the beach. There's something familiar about it. [It's later that I discover it was used for the beach scenes in Chariots of Fire.]

Night was closing in so I kept going to Kirkcaldy as the rain set in.
Why Kirkcaldy?
Yet another ancestor's birthplace.
